Sprocket Scores In Harrington Open Pace
Edwin Gannon's Sprocket recorded his fifth win of the season off a pocket trip in 1:53.3 over a sloppy racetrack Monday at Harrington Raceway in the $20,000 Open Pace.
The seven-year-old Sportswriter gelding received a pocket trip behind pacesetter Movin On Up, who made the lead early from post position eight. Sprocket gained the lead for driver Pat Berry near the top of the stretch and held off Movin On Up and Shes Pukka N to the wire. Movin On Up held second while Shes Pukka N, one of three mares in the race, finished third.
Sprocket is trained by Traci Berry and has had a career year with nearly $100,000 earned this season and a dazzling 1:48.2 mark set at Ballys Dover. He paid $7.40 to win.
The last six races of the 15-race card were cancelled due to unsafe conditions after heavy downpours in the region.
Live racing will resume Wednesday with a 15-race card. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
