Elizabeth 'Liz' Johnson Passes
Longtime Alberta Standardbred racing participant Elizabeth (Liz) Johnson passed away on Friday, June 24 at the Rivercrest Care Centre in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. She was 81.
Liz is survived by her beloved husband Samuel, God son Greg Makar, sisters Nell (Mike) Makar and Mary Anderson, who passed away June 26, 2022, nephews Guy (Maxine) Anderson, Greg (Kelly) Makar, and Glen (Yvonne) Makar. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their children, and many former colleagues and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Petro and Maria Sarawanski, her brother John, sister Annie and her husband Harry Fersovitch, brother-in law Hampton Anders, niece Debra Makar and nephew David Sarawanski.
Liz devoted herself to her teaching career for 35 years with the Edmonton Public School Board. In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, curling, attending the Edmonton Symphony Concerts, helping others in times of need, visiting friends and relatives, and hosting memorable meals and gatherings for family and friends. She loved travelling, especially trips and vacations to the Maritimes, West Coast, parts of the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Barbados and Hawaii.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, July 4 at 10 a.m. at the Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 52356 Range Road 232, Sherwood Park, AB.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Liz requested that memorial donations be made to The Hope Mission (Edmonton), The Edmonton Humane Society or The Canada-Ukraine Foundation.
