Winning Shadow Wins 50th Race
Winning Shadow trotted home for his 50th victory, winning the sixth race at MGM Northfield Park on Sunday (June 26).
The seven-year-old veteran, with 133 career starts, also has 28 seconds and 13 third-place finishes.
Winning Shadow (Credit Winner – Sheenas Shadow – Yankee Glide) has career earnings of $723,801 with a lifetime mark of 1:52.3 set earlier this month, which equaled a world record. The gelding’s richest win was for a purse of $58,000 in a New York Sires Stake at Batavia Downs in 2018. Winning Shadow is a well-travelled campaigner – his 133 starts have been spread across 13 different racetracks encompassing five states.
Winning Shadow started from post two in the evening’s $18,000 Open Trot. He let his competition set the early :27 and :56.2 fractions before taking the lead in the third quarter and lot looking back through times of 1:24.4 and 1:54.3, winning by 1-1/4 lengths. He was the favourite in the race and paid $2.60 to win.
Racing To Win Stable of Chittenango, New York owns Winning Shadow. Trainer Jordan Hope called upon Chris Lems for the winning drive.
The second leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series (BSS) wrapped up at MGM Northfield Park on Sunday night with the four favourites earning victories. Three-year-old colt trotters Phantom Tom and Hustlenomics picked with their second BSS victories while Mo Bay and Slim Jimmy won for the first time in the BSS.
In the first of the four $17,500 divisions, A Handsome Face with Don Irvine Jr. raced to the lead and controlled the pace with marks of :28.3, :58.1, and 1:27.3. Phantom Tom and Tyler Smith wait patiently in the middle of the pack before making their move down the back stretch, reeling in the leader around the final turn. Phantom Tom grabbed the lead at the top of the stretch and drew away to win by two lengths in a new lifetime mark of 1:57. Chipeter was second with Photo Tom third.
Trained by Scott Cox, the son of Long Tom is owned by Jughead Stables, G. Peters and David Lindsey. The win was Phantom Tom’s second of the year and pushed his seasonal earning to $32,225.
In the second division, Irvine Jr. again went to the lead, this time with Rose Run Xtreme. They held the lead at the quarter in :28.3 and the half in :58.2. Just past the half-mile mark, Jason Thompson pulled Hustlenomics and made his move to the lead, taking command down the backstretch hitting three-quarters in 1:27. The son of Full Count pulled clear around the final turn on the way to two-length victory in 1:57.1. Rose Run Xtreme held on for second with Hillof A Knockout finishing third
The win was the fifth of the year in nine starts for the Todd Luther trainee, who has earned $53,125 this year. Hustlenomics is owned by Black Magic Racing.
In the third division, Mo Bay made it look easy grabbing the lead around the first turn and never looking back to win for the fourth time in eight starts this year. Mo Bay with Greg Grismore driving covered the fractions in :28.2, :58.2 and 1:27.3, winning in 1:57.2 on a track that turned to sloppy with the rain. Rose Run Xtatic finished second with Hit Em Up Dude finishing third.
Trained by Sam Schillaci, Mo Bay has earned $31,375 this year for the Schillaci Stables, Peter Barbato and Sam Bova Racing.
In the final division, Slim Jimmy took a liking to the sloppy track and cruised to an easy 12-length victory. The Long Tom colt, with Hunter Myers driving, took the lead at the quarter pole in :28.3 and held the lead at the half in :59.1. My Guy Wraps it Up challenged just past the half-mile mark, sticking his head in front before breaking stride. Slim Jimmy took advantage and pulled away down the backstretch hitting three-quarters in 1:27.1 and finishing in 1:56. Go Go Andy finished second with BH Gold Cash third.
Jason McGinnis trains Slim Jimmy for The Stable Slim Jimmy and Hutchison Harness. Slim Jimmy has won three of eight this year and has earned $31,125.
Buckeye Stallion Series action resumes July 3 at Eldorado Scioto Downs with the third leg of three-year-old filly pacers. First race post time at Scioto Downs is 3:15 p.m.
Don Sherman knows that when he has the best horse in the race, the front is the place to be and that's just where Sherman put 2-5 shot Dynamic Edge to win the GLADA Trot.
When the wings of the gate folded at Northfield Park, Sherman and Dynamic Edge had two lengths on the field when they zipped by the quarter in :29.2 as all challengers took a seat in behind the leader. He raced unchallenged by the half in 1:00, and up the backside Eddie Miller moved Admiral Allstar off the pylons and headed for the leader as did Christine Johnson with Go Go George. But Dynamic Edge kept trucking and he showed the way down the lane. Although Go Go George put pressure on the leader, Dynamic Edge dug in and hung on to a neck win in 1:59.1. Fultons Fury garnered the show dough for Darrell Rideout.
The nine-year-old Muscle Mass gelding is owned and trained by Jessica Roegner. He paid $2.80 for the win.
