Northfield Hosts Buckeye Stallion Series
Four divisions of 36 three-year-old filly trotters will take to the MGM Northfield Park track on Saturday (June 18) in search of a win in the second leg of the Buckeye Stallions Series. A total of $70,000 will be on the line with each division carrying a purse of $17,500.
The second division will be a rock'em-sock’em affair as four of the five first leg winners will square off. Gracious Triumph, Ill Annie Up, Lady Camryn, and Lady Is Great were winners at Miami Valley on May 1.
None of the four are the early favourite as that honour goes to Brekkenridge at 5-2. Chris Beaver trains the daughter of Break The Bank K and will have Aaron Merriman in the sulky. Brekkenridge has won two of seven this year and earned $25,550.
Gracious Triumph is the second choice at 4-1. Trained by Rosy Weaver with Don Irvine Jr. driving, the Triumphant Caviar filly has hit the board in six of seven starts with three wins.
The ladies in the race, Lady Camryn and Lady Is Great are co-third choices at 5-1.
Lady Camryn has won three of four for trainer Virgil Morgan Jr. Mitch Cushing will drive the What The Hill filly.
Lady Is Great will be looking for her third win of the season. Ryan Stahl will drive the daughter of Creatine for trainer Matthew Burkholder.
The other first leg winner will race in the fourth division. Alana Hill will try to stay perfect this year as she looks for her fifth win. The daughter of What The Hill is trained by Morgan Jr. and will be driven by Cushing.
Alana Hill is the second choice in the race as Reichers Caviar is the favourite at 3-1. The Beaver trainee will have Merriman driving. The daughter of Triumphant Caviar is coming off a win at the Paulding County Fair.
In the other two divisions, Beaver will have another race favourite in Rosana. The daughter of What The Hill is the 3-2 choice and will start for the second tier. She has hit the board in five of seven starts with one win.
The favourite in the other division is Purple Aura. The 2-1 favourite has one win in five starts this year for trainer Jason McGinnis. Anthony MacDonald will drive the daughter of Creatine.
First race post time for the 15-race card from MGM Northfield Park is 6 p.m.
