Saulsbrook Olympia Last To First In Pop-Up
The $25,000 Pop-Up Series Final went to the gate at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday evening (June 16) and Saulsbrook Olympia swept the field from last to win.
As the fillies and mares lined the gate for the final race on the card, bettors ranked Saulsbrook Olympia with 3-2 odds, second choice behind Kickin Cowgirl. As soon as the wings closed, several surged for the front while Saulsbrook Olympia and Austin Sorrie headed towards the rail. Parked out to the quarter in :27:1, the four-year-old mare took position with a view of the rest of the field. At the :56 half, Saulsbrook Olympia rushed up the inside into what appeared to be a blind switch; however, the pair swung five-wide after a 1:24.3 third quarter. The focus remained on Kickin Cowgirl (Sylvain Filion) and Cantstopthefeelin (Doug McNair) battling at the front, but Saulsbrook Olympia had them bested soaring through the stretch for the late win in 1:53.1 with a last quarter in :27.3.
Saulsbrook Olympia ($5.10) finished a length ahead of Mywishlistforyou ($5.60) and James MacDonald in second with Cantstopthefeelin ($7.60) rounding out the triactor.
Brian Lee trains the mare Big Jim out of the Cams Card Shark mare Racino Star for co-owners Saulsbrook Stables Inc and Edward Gorc. Saulsbrook Olympia won her 13th race in 33 starts, boosting her earnings to $126,253.
