Ciuffetelli, Schwartz Take NAADA Splits
Two $10,000 divisions of trotters in the NAADA Summer Series were contested Thursday at Yonkers Raceway and when the judges hung the official signs Tony Ciuffetelli and Alan Schwartz each reined a winner.
Ciuffetelli scored with Trump This in 1:58.2 while Schwartz struck with Awol Hanover in 1:59.
In his division, Ciuffetelli and Trump This started from the four-hole and they settled in behind Pilgrim Caviar (Joe Lee) who showed the way by the quarter in :29.2 . With everyone lined-up along the pylons Lee showed the way to the half in :59.3. Zooming and Tony Verruso were the first to challenge and although he got alongside the leader he couldn't get by him and they remained on the limb as Pilgrim Caviar got first call at the three-quarters in 1:28.3. When the field headed for paydirt Zooming faded but Trump This rallied up the inside, collared the leader, and went on to a length victory in 1:58.2. Pilgrim Caviar held on for second and Zooming took home the show dough.
Joseph and Albert Ciuffetelli own the winner who's trained by Symon Spicer.
In the second division Ciuffetelli sent Masstro to the lead in a swift :28.4 as Schwartz and Awol Hanover settled in behind him. They then raced one-two by the half in :58.2 and the order remained the same by the three quarters 1:28.2. But when they headed for home Awol Hanover rallied and collared Masstro and went on to a head victory in 1:59. Cyclone
The winner is owned by Clifford Grundy and trained by Philip Bo Sowers.
