Can Soccer Hanover Keep On Rolling?
Win streaks are made to be broken but Soccer Hanover is the top choice to keep his intact as he races for his fifth straight win Friday evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The Prince County, P.E.I. oval will host a dozen dashes of world class harness racing starting at 6:30 p.m. with the featured Preferred Pace lining up in race 11 for a $3,300 pot.
Soccer Hanover has been unheeded in four straight starts since returning to P.E.I. for trainer and co-owner Leith Waite and ownership partners Les and Spencer Waite. The Dragon Again eight-year-old has post five this week with Ken Murphy picking up the catch-drive as regular driver Corey MacPherson is racing in stakes action in Truro, N.S.
Mantario has been second to Soccer Hanover his last two starts and the Jennifer Doyle trainee will leave from post four on Friday with rookie driver Damian MacLellan above the wheels. Moonwriter leaves from post two for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Colin Johnson after the 10-year-old Sportswriter stallion was parked out in his latest start at this level, finishing third.
Also in the field are Boys Turn (to be driven by David Dowling), Nogreatmischief (Walter Cheverie) and Hunger Pangs (Dale Spence).
The Backstretch Beat likes Soccer Hanover to keep the win streak going: “Perfection has been the name of the game with this guy since making the trek North. He beat a similar field very handily his last start so we have to leave him on top.”
The Super Hi-5 is in play in the race 12 finale with Dividend Day the top choice in the wide-open affair for trainer/driver Devon Wallace and owner Alysshea Trail of Bloomfield Station. The Ameripan Gigolo eight-year-old is entered as a $6,000 claimer this week, giving him a sizeable drop in class from the non-winner $1,351 level he raced his last start. His top opponents are slated as Slide Guitar (Dowling) and Gringo Star (Jaycob Sweet).
