Dick Schneider Passes
Richard 'Dick' Schneider, an active member of harness racing in Alberta for more than 50 years, passed away on May 14 at the age of 81 following a lengthy illness.
Dick has been in the Standardbred industry for longer than the new generation can remember. Standardbred Canada shows records for Dick as far back as 1978, but most who know him will tell you that he was involved even before that. He has not only been in the industry as a successful breeder for more than 50 years, but has also been involved as a owner, driver and trainer. Dick has raised two sons, Richard and Quentin, with his wife Darlene and both continue to carry on in all aspects of the industry, as breeders, owners, trainers and drivers. There have been many great horses in this family’s history that Dick has been instrumental in developing. Most notably, in more recent years, many in the industry have watched the career of Nighttraintovegas (Camystic-Midnight In Vegas-Freedoms Pass). This beautiful mare has earned $298,225. She is definitely one of the jewels in the Schneider stable.
Dick is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Richy and Quentin (Kim), brother Horst (Ellen), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ernst and Lydia. He will be sadly missed.
At Dick's request, no formal funeral service will take place.
Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the family and friends of Dick Schneider.
