Mofford, Johnnie Jack Star At Northside
Ardon Mofford started the 2022 season of harness racing at Northside Downs with a training triple, and he returned for the second week of on-track action showing that success was no fluke.
After sending out Whosyourfather, Literally Hanover and Dont Tell Kim to victory on May 14, the Florence, N.S. resident returned to the winner's circle on Saturday (May 21) with Whosyourfather ($7.50) after the third race, Sauble Bonnie ($16.40) after the fifth and Dont Tell Kim ($6.20) in the finale to win three of the eight races carded. In fact, Mofford picked up the catch drive once again aboard second race winner Dellas Playboy ($4.90) to win half the card.
Mofford — who is best known locally as the chef / owner of The Governor's Pub — is serving up the cold shoulder to his on-track competition to start the season. In 10 drives thus far, he sports a 7-1-0 record with a 0.755 average. His training numbers are even better, boasting a 6-1-0 summary from eight attempts with an astounding 0.833 UTR.
In the weekly Winners Over feature, Johnnie Jack and Ryan Campbell pounced from second over down the backside and wore down a stubborn pacesetter in Gentry Seelster (Mark Pezzarello) to win the $1,600 pacing event by a half-length in 1:59.1. The five-year-old Westwardho Hanover - Water Sprite gelding picked up his first win of the season and 20th lifetime for trainer / owner Travis Campbell of Gardiner Mines, N.S.
