Continualou Bounces Back In Mares Open
Continualou atoned for two straight subpar performances with a sharp first-over victory in Wednesday’s $16,000 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
After back-to-back wins, Continualou finished fifth and sixth in her next two starts, a dismal pair that included a break. But she was in top form Wednesday, blistering the back half in :55.2 for Dave Palone as she tracked down the leader, Blue Ivy, and downed her by a half-length in 1:51.3. Lady Newton rallied for show.
Ron Burke trains Continualou, a four-year-old daughter of Sweet Lou-Continual Velocity who extended her career bankroll to $379,084, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Mike Wilder collected four wins and Palone three on the 11-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 11-race program features a pair of carryovers — $9,910.99 in the final-race Super Hi-5, $3,081.19 in the Jackpot Pick 5 (race four). First post is 12:45 p.m.
