The betting public put a lot of faith in Scene A Magician in Monday’s $13,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the gelding didn’t disappoint for the tandem of driver Garrett Rooney and trainer Jennifer Pinkerton.

Rooney hustled Scene A Magician to the lead from Post 1, and together they sliced out splits of :28.2, :59 and 1:28 before using a :29.2 closing panel to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Willyorwonthe in 1:57.2. Bastiano took home the show dough in the six-horse affair.

Sent off as the 4-5 favourite, the eight-year-old son of Daylon Magician-Scene Duharas won for the fifth time this season and for the 25th time in his career. He’s closing in on $50,000 in seasonal earnings while his lifetime total sits at $307,201.
