Nine Would Be Fine For Tweedle Dum
Pompano Park's track record holder, Tweedle Dum, will shoot for his ninth straight win on Wednesday evening in the Florida oval's Open Trot.
The eight-year-old gelding, who is listed as the 5-2 morning line favourite, will start from Post 8 in the featured fourth race for driver Walter Ross Jr.
A career winner of 52 races from 151 starts, Tweedle Dum is the fastest trotter in the history of Pompano Park, having tied the former World Record of 1:53.2 in 2007.
In 2006, the gelded son of Star Challenge was the winningest trotter in North America with 21 victories – which also stands as a track record at Pompano Park. Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter of Pompano Beach, FL own Tweedle Dum, who is returning from a ten-month layoff due to injury.
"I just keep my fingers crossed that he stays sound," said trainer Gordon Norris. "He is such a game horse. You don't come across many like him in a lifetime."
His main competition will come from Canadian invader, Farmer Jones, who makes his Pompano Park debut from Post 7 for driver Denis St. Pierre. A winner in three of his last five starts, all at different racetracks, Farmer Jones is a career winner of $235,000.
