Ripped And Ready Repeats In Rideau Preferred
Ripped And Ready was a front-stepping winner in last week’s $10,500 Preferred Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway, and in Thursday’s quest to repeat he proved he’s no one-trick pony.
The Thierry Vandenplas trainee used come-from-behind tactics to capture Thursday’s $10,500 Preferred Handicap for trotters, and in the process he earned a new seasonal record. Pascal Berube got away fifth from the assigned Post 8 with Ripped And Ready, who watched Seeyou Men lead the field through fractions of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:26.
Berube latched onto second cover on the way to the half, and they were still second over heading into the final quarter of the contest. Berube hustled his charge off cover in the late going and Ripped And Ready stormed home in :29.4 to win by a pair of lengths over Seeyou Men in 1:56.1. Crossfit, who did the first-over work, was third.
Sent off as the 2-1 favourite in the trotting tilt, Ripped And Ready won for the 14th time in his career for owner Dr. Ruth Irving of Russell, ON. The $5,250 payday bumped his bankroll to $166,166.
