Clever Character Coasts In London
Off the 3-2 favourite, Clever Character cleared command and cruised to the finish to snag the $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday (May 3).
Driver Travis Cullen sent the five-year-old Tellitlikeitis gelding for the point passing a :27.3 first quarter to clear Racemup, who charged out of post seven to take the early lead. Once on top, Clever Character continued to roll to a :56.2 half and to three-quarters in 1:24.4 while facing little competition. With the field bottomed out, Clever Character came off the corner and to the finish to best Racemup by two lengths with Ohare Hanover riding the pylons for third and Champagne Phil making only minor progress overland to take fourth. The winning time was 1:55 flat over a sloppy track.
Owned by A1stable, Ronald Cullen and Paul Sanders, Clever Character won his third race from 16 starts this season and his 17th from 73 overall. Jodie Cullen trains the earner of $463,332 who paid $5 to win.
