Rock Me Amastreos Repeats In Preferred
A gusty effort by Rock Me Amastreos earned him the lion’s share of the purse in Saturday’s $15,000 Preferred for pacers on closing night at Georgian Downs
.
The five-year-old son of Astreos-Queens Arms was a 1:55.1 winner in the class one week ago, and despite a tougher trip he managed to return to victory lane in Saturday’s follow-up assignment.
Rock Me Amastreos got away fifth for driver Kyle Balson, who watched Daibin N throw down an opening quarter clocked in :28.2. Daibin N was still in command of the tempo at the mid-way point in :58.1, but Balson had Rock Me Amastreos marching first over. Those two continued their battle to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.1 before Rock Me Amastreos kicked into another gear. He summoned up a :28.4 closing quarter to win by half a length over Straight Shooting in 1:56. Daddy Warbucks tagged along to finish third in the nine-horse tilt.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, Rock Me Amastreos picked up his sixth win in his last nine assignments. The 14-time winner, who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Art Balson, is a homebred owned by David Snowden of Bowmanville, ON. The pacer has hauled in $163,620 to date.
