Friday Night Feats For Jamieson And MacDonald
Two of Canada's top drivers shared the Friday night spotlight at Woodbine Mohawk Park as Jody Jamieson celebrated a career milestone while James MacDonald won six of the 10 races.
Jamieson reached the $140 million career earnings mark with a close second-place finish in the evening's first race aboard the Mark Winacott-trained Quan Blue Chip, who finished a half-length behind 1:53.1 winner Julerica and Doug McNair. A three-time O'Brien Award winner and two-time world driving champion, the Guelph, Ont. reinsman has won 8,419 races lifetime.
After finishing third in the opener, MacDonald then went on a four-race win streak, prevailing in close finishes with Tuckers Out ($4.80) for Canada's leading trainer Carmen Auciello, Wildcat Star ($4.90) for conditioner Tim Gillespie, another Auciello trainee Black Betty ($8.90) and Custard Lite ($16.90) for the J.R. Plante stable. Following a race off, the reigning Driver of the Year picked up his fifth victory of the night aboard the Susie Kerwood-trained Village Jade ($5.50). MacDonald later capped off his six-pack by steering Better B Donna N ($10) to a 1:52.4 triumph in the $28,000 featured mares conditioned pace over even-money favourite Dabarndawgswatchin, driven by Jamieson, to give Auciello the training triple.
