Sintra Sizzles In Season's Debut
Sintra hasn't made an on-track appearance since the start of October, but a six-month break doesn't appear to have hindered the millionaire pacer's ability to sizzle over the surface at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Making his nine-year-old debut during the Friday (April 8) session of qualifiers at Mohawk, Sintra made an impressive return to the racetrack for trainer/driver David Menary. After a :28.4 opener, Sintra handily kept his rivals at bay through middle panels of :57 and 1:24.1. With a six-length lead turning for home, Sintra stretched that margin out to nearly seven with a :27.3 closer to trip the timer in 1:51.4. Second Bruiser (James MacDonald) edged out Mappos Lion (Paul MacDonell) for the runner-up spot.
A 38-time winner from 97 appearances, Sintra (Mach Three- Dancin Barefoot) sports a career bankroll approaching $1.5 million for owners Michael Guerriero, Kelly Waxman, Nunzio Vena and Frank Cirillo.
