Lyons Tilt Hanover Circles Mohawk Mares
Lyons Tilt Hanover, driven by Austin Sorrie, watched the early action from the back of the pack then picked off rivals one by one to win Friday's $28,000 top class for female pacers at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Trailing the field that was reduced to seven with one scratch through a contested :28.1 opening quarter, Lyons Tilt Hanover launched her attack approaching the :57.3 midway mark and was within reach of runaway leader Better Be Donna N (James MacDonald) as they hit three-quarters in 1:26.4 while 2-1 favourite Awesome Hill (Sylvain Filion) scooted around a troubled Trafalgar (Trevor Henry) in the pocket spot. Lyons Tilt Hanover continued to progress and matched strides with Bettor Be Donna N turning for home before going on to score by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55.1. The pylon-skimming Dabarndawgswatchin (Louis-Philippe Roy) came through for second over Awesome Hill as Better Be Donna N faded to fourth.
Following a fourth placing finish in her Preferred debut last time out on March 18, Lyons Tilt Hanover was sent postward at odds of 4-1 and returned $10.30 to win.
Trained by Anthony Beaton for Threelyonsracing, the five-year-old Bettors Delight-Odds On Brittany mare sports a seasonal summary reading 3-2-2 from 11 starts with earnings climbing to $51,010. A 15-time career winner, she is closing in on a quarter of a million dollars in lifetime earnings.
