Majorca N Takes Dover Feature
Majorca N ground first over and won the Mares/Open Preferred Pace at Dover Downs on Wednesday night (March 30).
Feeling Sweet and Shes Pukka N unleashed their early gate speed. Feeling Sweet and driver Mike Cole grabbed control of the racetrack and marched to the quarter in a solid :26.1. Shes Pukka N accepted the pocket ride. The 1/5 betting choice Majorca N left and found a tuck in fourth going to the quarter.
Feeling Sweet continued on the engine and passed the half in :55.3. Majorica N and driver Corey Callahan moved steadily on the outside and challenged Felling Sweet to the three quarters in 1:23.1. In the stretch, Majorca N was able to wear down pacesetter Feeling Sweet and won by a half length in 1:50.3. She paid $2.40 for the victory. It was her third U.S. win in a row. She paced the last quarter in :27.2.
Majorca N is owned by Michael Casalino Jr of N.J. and Dylan Davis of Delaware. Dylan Davis trains and Corey Callahan sat in the sulky.
Feeling Sweet was second for trainer Joe Columbo. Mike Cole drove. Shes Pukka N was third for trainer Brian Malone. Tony Morgan drove.
Gaitway Gal won the $51,600 late-closing series for three-year-old pacing fillies (DSBF eligibles) at Dover Downs on Wednesday night. Gaitway Gal left then retreated to the pocket when 1-9 favourite Shabby Chic charged from third and sprinted to the lead after the quarter in :27.4. Shabby Chic led to the half in :56.3. Smokeys Passion braved a first-over trip and challenged Shabby Chic to the three quarters in 1:25.3. Gaitway Gal vacated the pocket and charged home to win by a neck in 1:54.2.
Gaitway Gal is owned by Gty Stables of N.J. and paid $7.60 for the win. She is trained by Jeffrey Smith. Pat Berry drove.
Shabby Chic finished second for trainer Michael Hall. Tim Tetrick drove. Smokeys Passion was third for trainerJeffery Clark. Art Stafford Jr drove.
Closing night features 16 races on the card. The feature race is the $32,500 Open/Preferred Handicap Pace, carded as Race 12. Let It Ride seeks his 4th win in a row.
There is a $1,490 Pick 5 carryover which begins in Race 6 on Thursday (March 31).
Tim Tetrick drove four winners on the card. Tony Morgan had a driving triple.
Dover Downs honoured the meet's leading driver and trainer during the card. Tim Tetrick received the award for driver of the meet while Crissy Crissman-Bier took the award for trainer of the meet.
