Eight Straight For Class Climber

Chat Chat continued her unstoppable ways at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday, January 8.

The five-year-old daughter of Angus Hall made it a remarkable eight straight wins when she defeated a mixed group in Rideau's ninth dash, which was for non-winners of $6,500 in purses in their last three races.

The fact that Chat Chat was racing in the entry-level claiming ranks at Rideau as recently as November makes her story even more amazing.

Driven by Guy Gagnon, the Gerard Demers trainee went to the front in usual fashion. Those familiar with Chat Chat's racing style know that when that occurs, the lady is one tough customer.

Chat Chat went on to dictate the terms of the mile with fractions of :28.3, :59.1 and 1:27.3. She utilized a final-quarter brush in :29.4 to nail down the victory in 1:57.2

At the wire, Chat Chat was four lengths better than Chaplin Hill and nearly five lengths better than Perseverando, who was, ironically enough, driven by Per Henriksen. Chat Chat had been claimed out of the Henriksen barn on November 13, 2011 at the clearance sale price of $6,500 (plus allowances) and has averaged roughly $4,000 per-start since then.

Chat Chat is owned by a numbered Quebec Company.

A Playboys Ransom

RL Playboy took 24 starts to graduate from maidens. In rein to David Pilon, he bested the field on Sunday and blew up the tote board in the process.

While the payouts may not have been enough to purchase the Playboy mansion, no one would turn their nose at $2,240.90 --- that's what the exactor returned when RL Playboy, a 24-1 shot, combined with 23-1 outsider Spin The Wheel. The favourite Seven Wonders finished third to help produce a triactor of $2,560.50

RL Playboy paced the mile in 2:01 flat for owner Denis Malo and Trainer Gilbert Morin.
