Wheels On Fire Wires Preferred Foes; MacDonald & Auciello Dominate
Wins have been tough to come by in the last six weeks for O’Brien Award winner Wheels On Fire, but he had no problem changing his fortune Saturday evening in the $36,000 Preferred for pacers at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
With Doug McNair at the controls, Wheels On Fire was asked to march away from the gate and grab the lead. He rolled the field through fractions of :28.2, :56.4 and 1:25.1 before kicking home in :28.3 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Uhtred in 1:53.4. Taking home third prize was Jimmy Freight in his quest for a third straight win in the class.
Richard Moreau trains the seven-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Ab Fab for Brad Grant of Milton, ON. The win improved the gelding’s 2022 record to 4-2-3 from nine trips to the track. The 39-time winner lifted his lifetime earnings to $760,003 with the triumph.
O’Brien Award winner James MacDonald celebrated a five-win performance on the 10-race card thanks to score with Pat Mcgarry A (Race 1 - 1:57), Heresthatmanagain (Race 2 – 1:55.3), Priceless Beach (Race 5 – 1:52.2), Its In The Stars (Race 6 – 1:54.4) and Sights On You (Race 7 – 1:57).

The best racecard anywhere in North America!
Now that Mohawk is apparently no longer holding overnight races for trotters on Saturdays, I think the Saturday race card at Mohawk is the best harness race card on any day of the week, at any track in North America. Kudos to Mohawk's secretary of racing!
