Alex Having Fun Fires In London
Richard Moreau trainee Alex Having Fun persisted with a first-over grind to land in the winner's circle of the $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Tuesday (March 1).
Driver Brett MacDonald settled the five-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven gelding in fifth while P L Jackson powered to the top from the outermost post in the sextet to a :27.4 first quarter. With the pace slowing to the half in :57.1, Alex Having Fun edged off the pegs and began an advance into the third-quarter sprint. P L Jackson took the field by three-quarters in 1:25.2 while Alex Having Fun loomed closer on the rim and soon bore down on the pacesetter off the final turn. Alex Having Fun overpowered P L Jackson through the lane to edge 1-1/2 lengths in front to the finish. Homey Joe finished third and Outlawgrabbingears, the 9-5 favourite, gave chase off a pocket trip for fourth.
Owned by Ecurie CSL and Gaston Bibeau, Alex Having Fun earned his 15th win from 63 starts, pushing his earnings to $114,214. He paid $7.30 to win.
