Whichwaytothebeach Qualifies At Mohawk
Last month's Tattersalls Winter Sale topper Whichwaytothebeach made his four-year-old Canadian debut for his new connections during Thursday's (Feb. 24) qualifying session on a -12 degree morning at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Purchased for $390,000 at the January 17 sale by Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont., Whichwaytothebeach was back at Mohawk where he took his 1:49.2 lifetime mark in the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes last year and finished third in the North America Cup.
With Chris Christoforou in the bike for Thursday's 1:54.1 morning mile, Whichwaytothebeach took the lead off the gate and cruised through fractions of :29.3, :59 and 1:27.2 before drawing off by nine lengths with a :26.4 final frame. Bettorbuckleup and Hunter Hill finished second and third.
Desiree Jones trains the Somebeachsomewhere-Swinging Beauty gelding, who won a January 8 qualifier prior to the sale in 1:51.3 at The Meadowlands. Whichwaytothebeach is a career winner of 12 races from 27 starts and $581,165.
