Bulldog Tenacity Upsets At Western Fair

Bulldog Tenacity braved the blustery winter conditions and hauled down pacesetter Justalittleluck off a ground saving trip to capture the $11,000 Preferred 2 Pace at Western Fair Raceway on Monday evening

.

With regular reinsman Mark Williams in the sulky, Bulldog Tenacity got away fifth from Post 8 and advanced along the rail before rallying wide down the stretch to steal the glory in the 10th race feature.

Justalittleluck (Nick Steward) set up shop on the front end before being confronted by the popular Willies Place (Scott Young) after the :28.1 opening quarter mark. Willies Place advanced first up from fourth with Lucky Terror (Jonathan Drury) picking up his cover and battled head-to-head with the leader past the :58.4 half-mile marker. However, Justalittleluck turned back that challenger during the third panel, reaching the next marker in 1:27.1.

Meanwhile, Bulldog Tenacity, who remained down at the pylons while some of his foes elected to move out, advanced around the final turn before tipping three-wide. The six-year-old pacer switched into attack mode down the stretch as he hauled down Justalittleluck to score the 1:57.2 triumph over the snowy track, which was rated two seconds slow. Justalittleluck finished one length back in second and Button Up (Mike Horner) rounded out the top three.

With the victory, Bulldog Tenacity improved his racing record to 15-12-11 in 67 starts and lifted his earnings to $93,330. William Kirkpatrick owns, trains and bred the Rambaran-Vartanian gelding.

Bulldog Tenacity returned $26 to his backers for a $2 win ticket.
