Truffles Too Sweeps Family Day Trotting Series
After being perfect in the preliminary legs of the Family Day Trotting Series, Truffles Too was just as perfect in the final of Monday’s $33,400 final at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
With Bob McClure at the controls, Truffles Too parked to the quarter pole in :28.1 before forging to the front and carving out middle panels of :58.2 and 1:27.2. A final quarter clocked in :29 earned the gelding the win by 1-1/2 lengths over the pocket-sitting favourite, Urntrouble Hanover, in 1:56.2. Taking home third prize was a well-beaten Dealin With Dewey.
Bill Budd trains the four-year-old son of Donato Hanover-Truffles for owners Deanmar Sons Stable, Peter Miskolczi, John Freda and MPG Racing. The victory improved his 2022 record to 3-3-1 from seven assignments. The nine-time winner has banked $111,572 to date.
Monday’s card also featured the third leg of the Pop Up Series for conditioned claimers on the pace, and the lone division went to Mayhem Like Me in 1:56.2. Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, the gelding dropped into the pocket early for driver Jody Jamieson while River Dali marched to the lead and supplied the field with an opening quarter clocked in :27.3. Jamieson hustled his charge to the outside in the backstretch and together they led the group to the mid-way point in :58.
From there, The Amazingsando brushed to the position of command and went on to wheel the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:28.3 while feeling first-over pressure from longshot Just Plain Needy. The battling leaders were collared late by a re-rallying Mayhem Like Me who stormed home in :27.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over The Amazingsando. Just Plain Needy wound up third.
Limco Inc of Chateauguay, QC owns the four-year-old son of Sunshine Beach-Thats Mara who won for the first time this season from seven tries. The eight-time winner has banked over $56,000 to date.
