Harold 'Hoot' Gibbings Passes

Lifelong harness racing enthusiast Harold 'Hoot' Gibbings of Clinton Ont. passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at the age of 88.

He is survived by Standardbred Canada members, daughter Lynne Gibbings-Davies (Randy Rier) and step-granddaughter Natalie Elliott. A proud participant in the early days of Clinton Raceway through roles including Turf Club president, patrol judge, paddock judge and track maintenance, he also trained and drove pacers that he bred and owned with his late wife Lois.   

Also survived by children Larry Gibbings (Sue Riley), Steven Gibbings (Julie), Wendy Coleman (Les), longtime companion Janet Hunking & family. He was proud Grandpa/Papa to 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. 

Always quick with a story, cheerful greeting and good luck wish, Harold’s passion for Standardbreds lives on through Lynne, Natalie and his favourite driver Trevor Henry. 

As per Harold's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Celebration Of Life will be held in Clinton on Saturday, May 14.
