Dewinton Destroyer Back In The Spotlight
Northlands Filly Pace champion Dewinton Destroyer scored one final victory of her sophomore season with a late kick that propelled her back into the spotlight at Northlands Park in the $9,500 top class for female pacers
.
Dewinton Destroyer, driven by Jamie Gray, got away sixth from Post 5 in the eight-horse field and moved into the outer flow down the backstretch before rallying home in :28.1 for the 1:56.3 score.
Barona Josie (Bill Tainsh Jr.) fired off the gate from her outer starting spot and went up against early leader Nakednakednaked (Gerry Hudon). She cleared to command, but Nakednakednaked moved back out for the retake at the :28.3 opening quarter mark.
Nakednakednaked led the field to the half in :58.4 and three-quarters in 1:27.2 while Crying Over You (Jeff Stone) advanced first up from fourth with W Jean (Brent Grundy) picking up her cover, Minettas Nightstar (Bobby Clark), and her stablemate, Dewinton Destroyer, also following to the outside.
Crying Over You swept past the pacesetter down the stretch, but Dewinton Destroyer came storming home on the far outside to steal the glory. Crying Over You finished one and a half lengths behind in second while early trailer Weareverigo closed well to edge out W Jean and Nakednakednaked for third.
Dewinton Destroyer improved her 2011 record to 11-7-1 in in 26 starts and pushed her seasonal earnings to $155,929 for trainer Keith Clark, who also shares ownership with Doris McDougall of Cochrane, Alta. The As Promised-Avacal Hope filly paid $4 to win as part of the favoured Clark entry.
