Patriarch Hanover Prevails In Mohawk Park's Top Trot
After a near miss in last week’s Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Patriarch Hanover returned to the Campbellville oval to claim this week’s $36,000 feature for the duo of driver Doug McNair and trainer Richard Moreau.
A recent $162,000 purchase from the Tattersalls Winter Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands, Patriarch Hanover tucked into an early three-hole after leaving out sharply from Post 6. He rated early while Oney Hall shot to the top and chopped out the opening quarter in :28.1. McNair had Patriarch Hanover on the move in the backstretch, however, and in a matter of strides they were up to claim the position of command.
Patriarch Hanover sailed through middle panels of :56.3 and 1:25.4 before feeling heavy pressure in the lane from Spartan General. They battled the length of the lane, with Patriarch Hanover’s :28.3 closing panel earning him the narrow score by a head. Spartan General was next best, with Oney Hall taking home third prize.
Brad Grant of Milton, ON owns the five-year-old son of Father Patrick-Personal Style who now boasts a 1-2-0 record from three starts this season. The 13-time winner has potted earnings totalling $416,826.
