Yanks Dugout Lands In Dover Feature
Yanks Dugout scored a repeat victory in the Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs on Tuesday night (Feb. 1).
Three trotters left in unison at the start of the race. Morairtime and Quiksilvr Bluechip parked Northern Express three wide, passing the opening quarter in :26.4 over a "good" track. Steuben Hanover pulled to the outside at the 3/8ths and marched first over and coverless down the backstretch. Yanks Dugout shadowed that cover second over on the rim. Northern Express continued on the engine and trotted to the half in :56.1 and continued to three-quarters was reached in 1:25.2.
The 2-1 betting favourite, Morairtime, watched the action from the pocket. At the top of the stretch, Yanks Dugout launched a four-wide brush and won by a neck in 1:54.3. He paid $7.60 for the win.
Yanks Dugout (Triumphant Caviar-Yansky-Muscles Yankee) is owned by Ivan L. and John Duke Sugg of Ohio. Ron Burke trains and Tony Morgan drove.
Northern Express cut the mile and finished second for trainer Arty Foster Jr. His son Russell Foster drove. Quiksilvr Bluechip was third for part owner, trainer and driver Victor Kirby.
Scuola Hanover, Shes Pukka N and Soho Burning Love A battle it out in the $25,000 Mares Open Pace on Wednesday night (Feb. 2). The feature goes as Race 12.
Tony Morgan and Tim Tetrick won three races each on the betting card.
