‘Tiempo’ Takes Fraser Feature
Odds-on favourite Tiempo Hanover took over control heading to the half and held firm to the finish of a 1:56.4 mile, winning the $10,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Sunday (Jan. 30).
Leaving from the pylon post, Tiempo Hanover raced second to Mach Steady past a :28.1 first quarter before driver Brandon Campbell pulled the eight-year-old Western Ideal gelding out of the hole and grabbed command by the stands. He cruised over the “sloppy” track through a :58.3 half and to three-quarters in 1:27.3 as Armycaptin Hanover mounted a first-over challenge, looming closer coming for home. Armycaptin Hanover ranged to within a length of the leader coming into the stretch, but Tiempo Hanover kept him at bay to hit the beam a half length better. Mach Steady gave chase from third, another two lengths behind, with Waitin Ona River fourth.
Trained by Campbell for owners Jodi Loftus, Dana Shore and Raymond Henry, Tiempo Hanover won his 23rd race from 139 starts, lifting his earnings to $215,100. He paid $2.70 to win.
