Westwardho Hanover Upset
One of harness racing's hottest horses, three-year-old Westwardho Hanover has been extremely tough to best since moving to the barn of trainer Ron Burke
. Stablemate Fred And Ginger was able to get the upper hand today (Tuesday), twirling from the pocket in the lane to dance past Westwardho Hanover, and capture Tuesday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.
Westwardho Hanover overtook Fred And Ginger with a quarter-pole move, but under Brett Miller’s urging, Fred And Ginger — the former all-age track record-holder at The Meadows — proved stronger late, prevailing by 1/2 length in 1:52.1 over a sloppy surface. Biletnikoff shot the Lightning Lane for show.
Ron Burke trains Fred And Ginger, a four-year-old son of Real Artist-Graceful Motion who now boasts $647,209 in career earnings, for Howard Taylor, Robert Feldman, Edwin Gold and Jerry Silva.
Miller drove four winners on the 14-race card, giving him nine victories over the past two programs.
