MacDonald Injured In Flamboro Mishap
Driver Anthony MacDonald was taken to hospital by ambulance following a two-horse collision prior to Thursday’s eighth race at Flamboro Downs
Shortly following the post parade for the eighth race, MacDonald and Just Coastin Along collided with Had Me From Hello and Bob McClure.
Trot Insider has learned MacDonald was knocked unconscious for a number of minutes before coming to and conversing with first aid staff. As a precautionary move, he was later transported to Hamilton General Hospital.
"It's never cool waking up in an ambulance," Anthony MacDonald told Trot Insider. "I don't think they are keeping me overnight but I have to see the head surgeon first. It's weird, I've never been knocked out. I kept thinking it was a dream. It's very unsettling not knowing what happened or if you will be OK. Luckily I landed on my head!
"I'm still a ways off of Mark's [his brother Mark MacDonald] injuries from last year," added MacDonald. "I will live. Thanks for Standardbred Canada's and everyone else's best wishes. I hope nothing I did resulted in this mishap. If so, my deepest regrets to all parties affected."
Bob McClure booked off his drive behind Had Me From Hello, but reports indicate he didn’t suffered any serious injuries in the mishap. Had Me From Hello was permitted to race, and Scott Young catch-drove the pacer to a fourth-place finish.
Just Coastin Along ran around the track a few times following the collision and was eventually scratched. Reports indicate the pacer suffered only superficial scrapes from the incident.
Additional details will be posted when they are made available. Please join Standardbred Canada in wishing Anthony MacDonald a speedy recovery.
