'Caliban' Continues Ontario Win Streak
Six-year-old trotter Caliban Hanover continued his Ontario win streak at Rideau Carlton Raceway on Sunday night for the hot-handed horseman John MacDonald, who recorded driving victories in one-third of the evening's races
.
MacDonald dominated the middle portion of the 15-dash card winning four consecutive races beginning in the fifth. Among those wins were Caliban Hanover's ($3.10) six length romp in 2:00.2 over the sloppy surface. The six-year-old Andover Hall-Crown Lavec gelding is now a perfect six-for-six since shipping to Ontario in October for owner Wendell MacDonald of Cornwall, P.E.I.
MacDonald scored his other mid-program wins with Aarons Mattjesty ($6.80) for trainer Gary McDonald, the Guy Corbeil-trained three-race streaker Clic K ($2.50), and Thistricksforyou ($5.90), another Maritime ship-in earning his first win in three starts since arriving in November for P.E.I.'s Jennifer Trainor and Paul Weeks. MacDonald also picked up a win earlier on the card with Wolf Creek Ted ($9) for trainer Luc Loyer.
The resident of Russell, Ont. has won 309 races this year and is in the midst of his sixth consecutive million dollar season. MacDonald leads the drivers standings at Rideau and is currently ranked seventh in all of Canada for wins. Lifetime, he has driven 2,306 winners while earning $11.76 million in purses.
