McNair To Match Movember Donations
While 21-year-old Doug McNair may have taken a little ribbing from his fellow drivers being the youngest on a team attempting to grow mustaches for Movember, he’s been a good sport all along and will now be opening his own wallet for the cause
.
The resident of Guelph, Ont. was among a team of 12 harness racing personalities organized by Trot Magazine, who grew out their mustaches during the month of November and raised money as part of the Movember movement.
Trot's Movember Madness competition then pitted the men against one another in a battle of the best ‘stache. While standardbredcanada.ca readers eliminated McNair in the first round of online voting, he said that he was happy to be apart of the team and help raise money and awareness for prostate cancer.
“There’s been a lot of people that I know that have had some kind of cancer,” said McNair. “Terry Taylor just died and I was pretty tight with him. I think I saw him the day before he died. It’s pretty tough to see someone go through that and I hope they can have a cure for cancer someday.”
The team raised nearly $4,200 in total, plus an additional $500 donated by Trot Magazine in the name of the contest winner, Mike Saftic. McNair raised $253 himself in donations throughout the month and told Trot Insider that he will be matching that total.
“I didn’t really know how much of a mustache I could grow until I tried it,” commented McNair, who shaved his off on December 1. “I used Just For Men a couple of times to darken it up a bit. It wasn’t too bad. It was fun to do something like that. Maybe 20 years from now I will be able to grow a nice one.”
In the meantime, McNair said he will try again next year anyways.
“It was a lot of fun. We had a lot of laughs and jokes over it and it was for a good cause.”
The Trot team also included Greg Blanchard, Chris Christoforou, Dan Fisher, John Gallinger, Jody Jamieson, Evan Loucks, Paul MacDonell, Ken Middleton, Keith Oliver, and Jeff Porchak.

"Maybe 20 years from now I will be able to grow a nice one". LOL - At least Doug is able to keep a sense of humour about the whole thing. Well done!
