Pair Of Preferreds Highlight Rideau Card
Norway No Day and Bolero Trisco took their respective Preferred assignment at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday evening, but the victories didn't come easy.
Just a nose separated Norway No Day and runner-up Good Feeling in the $13,400 Preferred Trot. The time for the mile was 1:57.
Yves Filion had Norway No Day on the outside looking in as the field cruised to the quarter pole in :28.1. The daughter of Self Possessed eventually cleared, but she felt pressure for the balance of the mile.
After dealing with a first-over challenge from Gutsy Volo, who was parked every step of the mile, Norway No Day had to dig down deep to keep a fast-closing Good Feeling at bay. That foe finished second and Gutsy Volo held on for the show dough.
Gilbert Hamel conditions the winner of $245,565 for Ecuries R L Belanger of Laval, QC.
Bolero Trisco rallied from out of the clouds to pull off a 10-1 upset in the $13,400 Preferred Pace for trainer Daniel Martin and teamster Marcel Barrieau.
The four-year-old son of Northern Luck sat eighth for the first three-quarters of the mile before making his presence felt. Barrieau wheeled his charge into a clear lane and powered home in :28.3 en route to the 1:54.1 score.
Kublai Pan was a neck back in second and Imjustalittleguy rounded out the top three.
Pierre Deslauriers and Pierre Louis Levesque of Quebec share ownership on the 13-time winner, who bumped his bankroll to $119,569 with the win.
