Higher And Higher equaled the world record over a five-eighth mile oval steaming to victory in the $23,000 Mares Open/Handicap Pace at Dover Downs

on Tuesday.

For the second straight week, Daryl Bier drove Higher And Higher to a convincing triumph in the track’s top female event of the week. This time the winning margin was three lengths and the time equaled the world record for a four-year-old mare set by Makerbark in 2009 at Chester Downs. The 1:49.2 clocking equaled the all-track record set last season by Showherthemoney. The former track record for a four-year-old of 1:49.4 was established by the renowned Delaware champion Rainbow Blue in her only start at four winning the one-time Classic Series in 2005, before being injured and retired.

Higher And Higher joins stablemate Fools Gold, winner of the $30,000 Preferred/Open pace Monday as repeat winners the last two weeks. Trainer-driver Daryl Bier owns both four-year-olds with partners Glenn Del Russo and Charley Dombeck. Omen Hanover (Tim Tetrick) and No Bad Luck (Montrell Teague) were second and third respectively in the world record-equaling mile.
