Dover Features To 'Gold' And 'Rusty'

It was déjà vu over again in the $30,000 double feature paces on Monday at Dover Downs. In a repeat of last week’s headliners, Fools Gold won the Preferred/Open and Highbeam Rusty N made it two-in-a-row

in the Delaware Special.

Daryl Bier wasted no time taking Fools Gold to the front and the I Am A Fool-Trinketstreasures four-year-old led the rest of the 1:50.1 mile for his fourth win in his last five outings. Bier trains and owns Fools Gold with Glenn Del Russo and Charley Dombeck. Mainland Key N (Tim Tetrick) finished second with Jeremys Successor (Sean Bier) a solid third. The victory was the 12th of the year in 17 starts for Fools Gold, a winner of $123,365 this season.

Highbeam Rusty N and Corey Callahan left the starting gate in a hurry pacing a :25.3 opening panel and then shook off a challenge from Nova Artist (Allan Davis) on the backstretch until the turn for home. The New Zealand-bred altered son of Artsplace-Michele then won a four-horse photo in 1:50.2. Roman Conqueror N (Daryl Bier) took the print for second with Artists Rally (Jim Morand) third in front of fast finishing Volo (Tony Morgan).

Mike Hall conditions Highbeam Rusty N for Carter Racing Stable’s second winner on the card. It was his sixth win of 2011 and lifts the gelding in three digits with $109,315 earning this season.
