Daibin N Repeats In Champions Series
The second leg of the Champions Series continued on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs with Daibin N doubling up for trainer-driver Mike MacNeill
. The series is for non-winners of $75,000 in 2011 as of Oct. 22.
Daibin N led the way from start to finish and held off the pocket-pulling Willies Place (Scott Young) by a head to win in 1:56.4. Thomson Seelster (Gerry Belanger) rallied three-wide from fifth at the third quarter mark and came on for third, finishing just three-quarters of a length behind the winner.
The son of Iraklis has won 12 times in 39 starts this year while banking over $67,000 for local owner Yves Belanger. After pulling off a 9-1 upset in the first leg, he was the odds-on favourite in round two and paid $2.90 to win.
With the other first leg winner, Officernagentleman, scratched sick in the earlier division, five-year-old Four Starzzz Shark gelding Part Shark was deemed the bettor's choice and didn't disappoint. With Scott Young in the sulky, he front-stepped his way to a 1:57 victory for trainer Wayne Preszcator and the Secret Weapon Stables of Waterloo, Ont. Pocket-sitter Deuces And Jacks (Paul MacLean) finished three-quarters of a length behind in third while Daddy Warbucks (Gerry Belanger) rounded out the top three.
Part Shark paid $3.10 to win for the seventh time in 24 seasonal starts. He has banked over $70,000 so far in 2011.
