Whatta Hotty Delivers In Gold Final
Whatta Hotty delivered as the even-money favourite on Wednesday at Flamboro Downs to capture the $120,000 OSS Gold Final for three-year-old trotting fillies.
Starting from Post 3, driver Garrett Whelan was unhurried with the daughter of Yankee Paco – Our Kuli Girl as the duo got away in fifth at the :28.2 opening quarter, which was set by Nashotah (Roger Mayotte). As the field made its way in front of the grandstand, Whatta Hotty moved to the outside and the Jim Whelan trainee caught cover in the form of Kadealia (Jack Moiseyev) at the :58.1 half.
When her cover began to stall down the backside, Whatta Hotty swung three-wide for Whelan and was only two lengths back of Nashotah at the 1:27.4 third panel. Whatta Hotty drew within a nose of the lead at the top of the lane and she collared Nashotah with ease, opening up to a length and a quarter at the wire, tripping the teletimer in a career best 1:57.3.
Only Lonely (Bill O’Donnell) was second while Jayporthasitall (Brad Forward) closed to grab third.
Whatta Hotty was bred and is owned by Jim Whelan and Terry, Mary and Clarence Devos. It was her second victory in 11 starts this year and her sixth lifetime win. In 19 career attempts, the filly now has earnings of $233,058.
In the $20,000 Gold Consolation, Countess Stormont cleared to the lead at the half and never looked back, winning by a margin of five and three-quarter lengths in 1:58.1 for driver Jonathan Drury and trainer Norm Jones. It was the second lifetime win for the Kadabra – Lady Orbitex filly, who has earnings of $90,059 for owner/breeder Stormont Meadows.
