Racing Community Supports Toys For Tots
Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) joined the Halton Police today to help kick off the annual Toys for Tots campaign, which benefits the Salvation Army, at the Canadian Tire in Milton, Ontario
.
"The Mohawk family of employees, horse people and drivers have all come together to give and donate their time and resources in support of Toys for Tots,” said Jane Holmes, Vice-President of Corporate Affairs, WEG. “This is the second year Mohawk has joined this campaign to ensure that all children in the Milton area will have a gift for Christmas.”
WEG drivers and trainers are showing their support one win at a time. Chris Christoforou, Sylvain Filion, Jeff Gillis, Jody Jamieson, Richard Moreau, Luc Ouellette, Rick Zeron and Scott Zeron have confirmed their participation and will donate a portion of their winnings.
Scott Zeron, Canada’s leading driver by wins, was on hand to assist in launching the Toys for Tots campaign.
“It’s wonderful to see so many people being part of a very worthwhile initiative," said Zeron. "From WEG, to COSA (Central Ontario Standardbred Association), to the drivers, Toys for Tots brings together the spirit of giving to the community.”
In 2010, the Halton Toys for Tots campaign experienced a record-breaking year, assisting over 3,000 Halton families and raising over $180,000 in toys and cash.
The goal for the 2011 campaign is to exceed $180,000.
Both WEG and COSA presented cheques to launch the 2011 toy drive. WEG was represented by a number of Mohawk employees and COSA by its President, Bill O’Donnell. Donations can be made at Mohawk's main entrance and race office.
