Still Hope For Racinos In Illinois
According to a report, a political standoff between Illinois Senate President John Cullerton and Governor Pat Quinn could very well see racino gaming become a reality if the state wishes for any type of gaming expansion
whatsoever.
An article by Kristen McQueary on wbez.org explains that if the Senate does not support Gov. Quinn's proposed idea of a scaled-down gaming expansion --- which would see no racinos for the state --- Quinn may be forced to negotiate the issue, and thus racino gaming could become a reality, at least to some degree.
In an address to the media, Gov. Quinn recently announced that he did not support the gaming expansion bill which had been passed by the Senate earlier this year, and that he would veto it. He called the level of expansion "excessive" and clearly stated that he did not support the implementation of expanded gaming at Illinois racetracks or at the state fair.
"I think there’s always give and take in the legislative process," State Senator Jeff Schoenberg was quoted as saying. "What is driving this is a desire to maintain momentum, rightly or wrongly, from whatever bill had passed earlier."
