Teague Earns His First Training Title
Harrington Raceway awarded trainer George Teague, Jr. with the leading trainer title Wednesday evening. With one day left in the 2011 meet, Teague has 70 training victories
. Brothers Les (58 wins) and Wayne Givens (57) are in a battle for second.
Teague was presented a plaque from Harrington COO and General Manager of Racing, Jim Boese.
“We had a great year here,” said Teague, who was receiving his first ever training title. Despite having had top divisional horses and being one of the top trainers in the U.S. the past 10 years, due to the stake engagements of his two and three-year-olds, Teague doesn’t often accumulate a lot of starts at one racetrack, which makes it harder to win an individual title.
“It’s really special to get it here at home. We were fortunate enough to have a lot of success.”
Success is an understatement as the Teague barn sports a UDR of .579, an all-time high for a barn with more than 100 starts at a Harrington meet.
