Campbell Returns To Alberta
Last year's leading driver in Alberta, Brandon Campbell, will be arriving in Edmonton later this week as Northlands Park prepares for its biggest night of harness racing
.
Campbell, who's been plying his trade on the Ontario circuit through 2011, will be accepting driving assignments for the horses at Northlands on Friday night and Saturday afternoon's 'Battle of Alberta Super Finals' card.
"It's a great excuse to return to Alberta for a brief visit with family and friends," Campbell told Northlands' Sugar Doyle. "I'm looking forward to the weekend."
Now a winner of over 550 races, and $3.3 million in purse money, Campbell notched two runner-up finishes in last year's Super Finals aboard Campasser ($100,000 Final for three-year-old colts and geldings) and longshot Knickfree ($50,000 Final for four-year-old colts and geldings).
Race handicappers in Alberta have always been a fan of the 'first-time-Campbell' angle and the bettors will have that opportunity more than a few times this weekend.
Live harness racing at Northlands gets underway on Friday at 6:00 pm, with Saturday and Sunday afternoon start times at 1:00 pm.
Please note that the entry box for Friday now closes on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Saturday's entry box, which includes the ’Battle of Alberta Super Finals’, will close on Wednesday at 9:00 am.
