Ten-Year NY Racing Ban For Dutrow

Controversial thoroughbred trainer Rick Dutrow has been slapped with a 10-year ban from racing at New York racetracks

.

The New York Racing and Wagering Board announced it decision, which will go into effect October 18, according to a report by the New York Daily News.

In addition to the lengthy ban, Dutrow has been fined $50,000. He is also barred from any of the state's racetracks.

The NYSRWB decision has come months after a three-day meeting with Dutrow took place this past summer. The meeting had come after yet another serious infraction by the controversial and highly successful conditioner, who has had in the vicinity of 70 rule infractions in his training career. His last major violation, which came last November, was related to the finding of syringes in his barn

Earlier this year, the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission denied Dutrow a license to train horses in the state.

National Thoroughbred Racing Association President and CEO Alex Waldrop commented on the ruling afterward, saying, “Today’s ruling by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board in the case of Rick Dutrow is a clear indicator that regulators will not tolerate a pattern of disregard for the rules of racing by a licensee. Integrity is an indispensable part of thoroughbred racing, and all participants must abide by this principle in order to retain the privilege of participation.”

lets all be real here dutrow mwill still be invovled in the horse buissnes probably breaking yearlings and 2 year olds on the farm, and looking after horses who are returning form long breaks.he is a great man to the bettors as his horses are always good to go it is what it is there are many others out there doing the same thing so why single him out only?

Interestigly Mr Dutrow is still the trainer of record and racing as of Oct. 13, 2011(assumedly under appeal). This will give him lots of time to arrange "shadow trainers" and grab some more cash for the fine. One probably would need a calculater to add up the number of racing fans Mr Dutrow has "killed". What is even more sickening is Owners have no problem with his tactics as he rather than losing some has gained more!

Now, now let's not be to hard on the new york racing board. When Dutrow returns from his suspension they will get much tougher with him and after about another 60 or 65 infractions they will once again suspend him for 10 years but it certainly won't take 70 infractions the next time around. He fooled them once, he will not fool them again.

And he will still be racing somewhere in the US or maybe even in ontario next summer.

These rulings mean nothing because cheaters will always find a way to cheat behind the scenes. This is why I quit bothering to wager on racing. You have to be a total fool not to see the shenanigans that go on in racing day in day out.

What a farce! It took "in the vicinity of" 70 rule infractions for them to get the idea that this guy is not good for racing and to do something about it! How many people and horses were affected by him over that period of time? How much money did he 'steal' from other horsepeople and bettors? What took them so long? It would be laughable if it were not so pathetic.
The racing industry is falling apart before our eyes and we all know damn well that Dutrow is only the tip of the iceburg when it comes breaking the rules. When are we going to demand that the rest of them get shut down? That's the really pathetic part because the answer is 'never'.

Good.

Since it took "70 violations" for the NYSRWB to assign a 10 year ban they have nothing to be proud of!

For years, this guy has provided the kind of media coverage of horse racing you NEVER want to see. When I read this article I was reminded of the old saying "Good riddance to bad rubbish".
