Hyperion Hanover Takes Mark In Open
Amidst a night of impressive winning efforts and rich stakes events at Mohawk Racetrack, Hyperion Hanover put forth a dazzling effort of his own to win the $47,000 Open Pace in a new lifetime mark.
The five-year-old Camluck gelding was sent to the front from Post 3 by Rick Zeron. After posting a :26.1 opening quarter, Hyperion Hanover gave way to the post time favourite Secrets Nephew (Lyle MacArthur) en route to the half in :54.2.
Silent Swing (Randy Waples) took his turn on the front-end through a 1:21.4 third quarter as Hyperion Hanover was shuffled back to third. Once the field turned into the stretch, Silent Swing opened up by three lengths, but Hyperion Hanover had a :26.4 final quarter in him to pace on by for the win in 1:49.2.
Silent Swing finished a half length back in second with Secrets Nephew rounding out the top three.
The Rob Fellow trainee, who finished second to Secrets Nephew in last week's Open on a sloppy track, picked up his fifth victory of the season and increased his bankroll to $494,793. He is owned by the S S G Stables of North Boston, New York.
