Truth Or Dare Wins Campbell Memorial
Truth Or Dare fought off the pesky Game Zac in his quest for glory in the $5,000 Neil J Campbell Memorial Invitational Pace on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs
.
Leaving from Post 2 in his first Northside Downs start, Inverness Raceway regular Truth Or Dare battled on top with Post 3 starter Game Zac (Alex MacNeill) past opening fractions of :29.3 and :55.4.
The son of Camluck-Virginia Dare turned back his challenger during the third interval and reached the three-quarters mark in 1:26.4 with a two length lead on his foes.
Down the stretch, Truth Or Dare extended that margin to four lengths to secure the 1:56 victory and equal his season's mark. Romanie Ranger (Campbell MacIsaac) finished second off a pocket trip while Aahm Cruisin (Alex MacQuarrie) finished eight lengths back in third. Woodmere Westerner (Carey Romeo) and Game Zac earned the final paycheques.
Truth Or Dare paid $3.80 to win as the fan favourite. Walter Walker trains and co-owns the bay gelding, who sports a record reading 10-5-6 in 32 starts during his seven-year-old campaign, with Kayla Anne Habicht of Inverness, N.S. Truth Or Dare has banked $15,653 in purses this year and almost $90,000 lifetime.
Miss All Fun, driven by Rodney Gillis, rallied home from fourth to win the $800 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace in 1:59.4 by half a length over pocket-sitter Papas Little Rose (Joseph Campbell) and pacesetter Camilla Jet (Bruce McGean). The four-year-old Western Terror-Fits Of Fun mare is owned by trainer Donald and Leander Beaton of Port Hood, N.S. She paid $4.70 to win as the second choice in the field of five.
Edgar Jacobs scored a training grand slam -- four-for-four during the 14-race card -- as he sent out winners Acton Naughty ($18.30), Liams Legacy ($49), Glorias Girl ($6.40), and D Island Rebel ($6.80). Acton Naughty provided the Sydney horseman with his 100th training win.
