Woodbine Preferred Trot To Kashs Caviar
Frank Ryan champion Kashs Caviar converted from the pocket to win Friday night's $32,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack for the Baillargeon brothers
.
With Mario Ballargeon in the bike, Kashs Caviar left well off the gate from Post 3, but settled for a two-hole trip as outsider Frenchfrysnvinegar (Randy Waples) crossed down in front during a sizzling :26.2 first quarter.
Frenchfrysnvinegar continued to lead the field through middle splits of :55.2 and 1:24.1 before being collared by Kashs Caviar just past the seven-eighths mile marker.
The gelded son of Sjs Caviar-Ocala Kash, trained by Ben Baillargeon, then held off Tall Cotton (Jack Moiseyev) down the stretch for the half-length victory in 1:52.3. Swordfish (Scott Zeron) closed well for third while the pacesetter faded to fourth.
The time of the mile was a new career mark for the four-year-old.
The favourite, who was a runner-up last time out on Sept. 27 to $1.6 million earner Define The World, paid $3.50 to win for the fifth time in his last seven starts. He has won seven times in 21 seasonal starts while banking over $200,000. His lifetime earnings rose to $327,797 for owners and breeders Slaughter Racing Stable of Kentucky and Wayne Zollars of Ohio.
