Colonial Late Closers Wrap Up

Dalcroft Big Guy and Ten Yard Penalty earned a final leg victories in a pair of late closing stake series Saturday afternoon at Colonial Downs

.

Dalcroft Big Guy scored in the $11,500 one mile finale of the Juniors Pacing Series. The four-year-old Towners Big Guy gelding, who had a win and a fourth place finish in early leg divisions, left outside from Post 10 Saturday with driver Chris Page aboard.

Pinball Machine was the pacesetter throughout as reinsman Keith Cash guided his four-year-old mare through fractions of :26.2, :56.2 and 1:25.1. Page came outside, first over before the turn, then methodically caught the front stepper in mid-stretch. Dalcroft Big Guy ended up beating Pinball Machine by three lengths in a lifetime best 1:53.3. Wittys Beachboy, a five length first leg division winner, took third.

The winner, who returned $13.20, is trained by Todd Luther for Chad Osborne of Galena, Ohio.

In the $9,750 Hal Belote Memorial Trotting Series finale, Ten Yard Penalty won for the second straight week at the extended distance of one and a quarter miles. Craig Fletcher’s six-year-old Giant Hit gelding won by four lengths in the second leg last week and came back to win by three Saturday. Thanks to a perfect pocket trip throughout, Ten Yard Penalty zipped past Dreamanotherdream and Viking Mia in a perfectly timed move in deep stretch. The latter cut the first four fractions in :28.4, :59.2, 1:28.1 and 1:58.

The victor, owned by Kelly Jacobs of Sulphur, Oklahoma, crossed in 2:28, three-fifths of a second faster than last week. Dan O’Mara’s Dreamanotherdream held on for second while fast closing RT Phoebe's Giant took third. Ten Yard Penalty paid $10.60.
