Legal Entity Wires Gold Foes
A trip to Windsor Raceway on Sunday evening proved to be a profitable one for Bob Hamather’s homebred, Legal Entity, who celebrated the biggest win of her career in the $130,000 OSS Gold final
for two-year-old pacing fillies.
Luc Ouellette mapped out the winning trip for the daughter of Modern Art-Legal Wish, who caught a break in the early stages of the mile when the odds-on favourite, Apogee Hanover, made what turned out to be a costly break in stride.
Legal Entity tucked into an early five-hole for Ouellette while Mindsweeper sprinted to the lead in a :27-second clip. That filly got things her own way in the second quarter, and that enabled her to hit the half in just :57 seconds. Ouellette and Legal Entity commenced their first-over rally on the way to the mid-way point, and they were at the flank of Mindsweeper at the three-quarter pole in an amped-up clip of 1:24.4.
Mindsweeper began to fade at the head of the lane, but Legal Entity still had something left. Ouellette summoned up a :28.3 kicked from the freshman, and that was good enough to fend off runner-up Class Of O Nine by three-quarters of a length in 1:53.3. Cooking The Books wound up third, with the final cheques going to YS Gold Star and Apogee Hanover.
Legal Entity, who was sent off at odds of 5-1, improved her record to 3-3-2 in nine starts, and the $65,000 payday nearly doubled her earnings. She has managed to stash away $151,500 to date.
