Putnams Glory Captures Nova Scotia Stake

Two-year-old pacing filly Putnams Glory scored her first stakes victory in the $13,300 Nova Scotia Series Stake on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs

.

In the afternoon's fifth race feature event, Putnams Glory and trainer-driver Phil Pinkney wore down pacesetter Seeyouonthebeach (Darren Crowe) down the lane for the half-length victory in 2:02. Just Lovey (Danny Romo) recovered from a break in the stretch and finished three-quarters of a length behind in third. Putnams Reigns (Bernard McCallum) followed two and a half lengths behind while the rest of the field was involved in an accident as Putnams Vision (John Beaton) made a break at the three-eighths mark and caused interference to Deadly Force (Carey Romeo) and Blackriver Nannie (Ryan Campbell).

The winning daughter of Force Of Life-Royal R N R, who is now three-for-nine in her career with $9,074 earned, is owned by KPD Standardbreds of Lower Onslow, N.S.

Prince Of Hope and driver John Gerard Kennedy edged out favourite Jacob (John Beaton) in the afternoon’s $800 Preferred Pace, which was contested over a distance of a half-mile. The veteran son of Presidential Ball-Mallwalker Hanover, owned and trained by Heather Hawkins, lowered the track standard for the distance by two-fifths of a second to :57.

In the $1,200 Winners Over Pace, favourite Game Zac romped to a four length victory in a season’s-best 1:57 for trainer-driver Alex MacNeil. Lifes Win (Greg Bailey), a 21-1 longshot, closed well from the backfield to place while pocket-sitter Sir Dutch (Bruce McGean) settled for third. Kevin Gillis of Windsor, Ont. owns the six-year-old son of Expensive Scooter-Game Xoxa.
